CEW Seeking Suggestions for Workshops and Speakers

The Center for the Education of Women (CEW) is currently seeking suggestions for workshop topics, workshop leads, and speakers for an upcoming symposium.

The current political climate has created an increase in uncertainty and tension, nationally and on campus, prompting the need for activism and advocacy training.

CEW is planning the Spectrum of Advocacy and Activism Symposium to be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 on the varied models of advocacy and how individuals have developed personal models of advocacy within the context of their power, privilege, and identity. Participants comprised of U-M students, faculty, staff, and community members will develop an understanding of various approaches to advocacy which will aid them in refining their own personal model of activism.

Divided into four parts, transitioning from a global perspective to a personal perspective, the 2017 symposium will have an overarching theme of health outcomes of marginalized groups.

Seeking speakers…

  • whose work is focused on improving the health outcomes of marginalized groups
  • who have an awareness about the strategies they employ to advocate on behalf of others
  • whose advocacy strategies may be applicable to work beyond their field

Seeking workshops leads…

  • who can provide attendees with tangible approaches to engaging in advocacy and activism work
  • who can help attendees better understand their current context and how that relates to models of advocacy
  • whose strategies can be applied across areas of interest and fields
