Climate Change & Health Equity: Reducing Risk & Promoting Resilience

This year’s summer institute will explore the intersection of research, practice, and advocacy in climate change and health equity, in local and global contexts. By joining the UMSN Global Health Summer Institute, you will:

  • Access real-time Spanish interpretation on Day 2 of the conference!

Schedule

Each day will have a one-hour keynote speaker followed by interactive breakout sessions, concluding with flash presentations. The conference will open Day 2 with a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Panel. This panel is free to attend and is included for all registrants. The conference will take place on Zoom on the following dates and times (Eastern Daylight Time/UTC -4):

Monday, May 15th – Day 1 Schedule:

  • 8:15am – 9:30am | Keynote Presentation: Maternal and child health and climate change: The role of socially marginalized groups in disaster risk reduction with Angela Nguku, White Ribbon Alliance
  • 10:00am – 11:00am | Clinical Breakout Session: Disaster Preparedness Planning within a Health System and Community Context with Ryoko Ikari, Kitasato University Hospital Emergency and Disaster Medical Center, Kanagawa, Japan
  • 10:00am – 11:00am | Research/Policy Breakout Session: Climate Impacts of the war in Ukraine with Angelina Davydova, Environmental Journalist
  • 11:30am – 12:30pm | Flash Presentations: 5-minute presentations from various professionals and students around the world

Tuesday, May 16th – Day 2 Schedule:

  • 8:15am – 9:30am | Keynote PAHO Panel: One Health: A multidisciplinary approach to optimal health for all with Christopher Oura, University of West Indies
  • 10:00am – 11:00am | Clinical Breakout Session: International Procedures Skills Training & the Nurse Practitioner Role with Ray Blush & Deb Lee, University of Michigan School of Nursing
  • 10:00am – 11:00am | Research/Policy Breakout Session: Climate Resilience in Healthcare Systems with Shanda Demorest, Health Care Without Harm
  • 11:30am – 12:30pm | Flash Presentations: 5-minute presentations from various professionals and students around the world
