Regent Emerita Rebecca McGowan
It’s with deep sadness that CEW shares the passing of Regent Emerita Rebecca McGowan, longtime friend and supporter of the Center for the Education of Women. Elected as a Regent of the University of Michigan in 1992, and serving two consecutive eight-year terms, Beckie’s reach was far and wide. Whether she was advocating for LGBTQ rights, supporting the University’s affirmative action policies, or focusing on improving the architectural appearance of U-M buildings, her lasting vision and expertise will continue to be seen and felt across campus.
Beckie was a dedicated supporter of CEW and spent many years serving as a member of the Leadership Council. She cared deeply about the needs of women and nontraditional students, lending her talents as a scholarship reader and speaker at events.
Her courage and resolve will continue to inspire the work of CEW.
