CEW+ celebrates Airiana’s dedication to serving others and names her a Margaret Dusseau Brevoot Scholar.

Airiana Hamilton is pursuing her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. Airiana is a mid-Michigan native and previously earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Saginaw Valley State University in 2020, graduating with numerous honors, including Dean’s List recognition.

Airiana began her career working as an academic interventionist in a local public school district in 2021. In this position, she witnessed firsthand the need for social, emotional, and mental health support for children following the COVID-19 pandemic. Airiana now serves as a school social work intern and plans to pursue this path after graduation. She looks forward to advocating for children and families, reducing mental health stigma in minority communities, and helping to break cycles of generational trauma. Airiana also has a deep passion for spreading awareness about Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Airiana’s professional and personal life experiences, combined with deep compassion for others, ultimately guided her into pursuing the field of social work.  One of the most significant impacts on her aspirations has been motherhood. Airiana became a first-time mother during her freshman year of college. She persevered through the challenges of young parenthood and continued her studies uninterrupted, while caring for her older son, Braxton. During her senior year of college, her second son, Bentley, was born. Bentley was diagnosed with a severe genetic blood disorder called G6PD, requiring frequent hospitalizations and blood transfusions. Airiana uses his story to raise awareness about the condition.

Grounded in her faith, Airiana takes a holistic approach to care. She believes that we must recognize the integration of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects for total well-being. She hopes to work in each of these areas to improve outcomes and foster resilience in those that she serves.
