Farhia's dedication and leadership potential are widely recognized by her peers and mentors, making her a promising figure in the field of public health and nutrition.

Farhia Mohamed is a new American and clinical dietitian currently pursuing a master of public health degree in nutritional sciences at UM-Ann Arbor. Thanks to a highly competitive merit-based scholarship, Farhia excelled academically at Kuwait University where she graduated with distinction in nutritional science. Her professional resume includes contributions as a clinical dietitian at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center and a community health outreach specialist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio. Her work has emphasized the importance of addressing social determinants of health and improving community wellness.
Driven by her mission to enhance public health, Farhia founded the first Somali Nutrition Network and served on the board of the Somali Medical Archives. Her initiatives have aimed at increasing nutrition awareness and education among the Somali population, addressing critical health issues through culturally sensitive approaches.
With a focus on nutritional epidemiology, Farhia aims to prevent diseases and promote health through research, education, and policy. As an incoming first-year student, she will serve as the Nutritional Sciences Chair in the Public Health Student Assembly Senate for the 2024-2025 academic year, highlighting her leadership and commitment to her field. Additionally, Farhia’s dedication has recently been recognized with the NSF International Global Scholar Award and the Nutritional Sciences Scholarship from U-M.
After graduation, Farhia intends to become a leader in public health, driving impactful changes in nutrition and health policy, and making significant contributions to the well-being of both her home community in Somalia and her current community in the United States. Farhia’s dedication and leadership potential are widely recognized by her peers and mentors, making her a promising figure in the field of public health and nutrition.
