GETTING STARTED

Jamilah Mosed

Jamilah is committed to being a role model in her community, advocating for education, and supporting families as they navigate the challenges of raising children.

Jamilah Mosed is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Jamilah’s educational journey has been marked by persistence in the face of significant challenges. Her resilience was tested when she was involved in a serious car accident in 2001, which left her unable to walk for months. Through determination and rigorous therapy, she regained her mobility and returned to school to continue her studies. After earning her associate degree in child development from Henry Ford College, she had to put her academic ambitions on hold for nearly 14 years to care for her children.

While caring for her family, Jamilah developed a passion for education while working in the Detroit Public School system, where she previously served as a teacher’s aide. In this role, she developed essential skills in leadership, lesson planning, and effective communication. Jamilah is also an active member of her community. She regularly translates Arabic for non-English-speaking residents in her neighborhood, ensuring they have access to essential services.

After graduation, Jamilah intends to become a teacher in the Dearborn Public School District, where she will inspire and educate the next generation. Jamilah aims to create a rich learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth in her students. She is committed to being a role model in her community, advocating for education, and supporting families as they navigate the challenges of raising children. Jamilah’s instructors praise her work, noting that she promises to become a highly effective teacher and commending her reliability and dedication.

CEW+ recognizes Jamilah’s extraordinary resilience and names her a Margaret Dow Towsley Scholar.
