Jessica hopes to contribute to policy reform efforts that improve access to mental health services.

Jessica Pike is a master’s student at the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work, with a concentration in mental health and substance abuse. As a first-generation college student, Jessica previously earned her bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in holistic health care from Western Michigan University in 2012, graduating summa cum laude. During her undergraduate years, she demonstrated academic excellence by earning dean’s list recognition and developing a strong foundation in both conventional psychology and holistic approaches to wellness.

After graduation, Jessica investigated multiple career paths. In 2023, she found her calling in substance use disorder counseling, and she currently works as a substance use disorder counselor at Victory Clinical Services in Kalamazoo. She is pursuing certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals. Her work involves providing evidence-based counseling using motivational interviewing and reflective listening techniques, as well as developing person-centered treatment plans.

Jessica intends to become a fully licensed individual therapist following graduation. She envisions establishing a practice focused on holistic and trauma-informed care. On a macro level, Jessica hopes to contribute to policy reform efforts that improve access to mental health services. She is particularly committed to breaking down stigma surrounding mental health and addiction while advocating for accessible, culturally competent care for underserved communities. Beyond her academic and professional obligations, Jessica’s community involvement includes volunteering with local organizations such as the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Dignity in Motion, and Open Roads Bike Program.

CEW+ affirms Jessica’s vision for inclusive mental health care and names her a Margaret Dow Towsley Scholar.
