Josh Lyon
Josh’s professors remark that he is a “dedicated student” with “great promise as a future nurse practitioner”.
Josh Lyon is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice at UM-Ann Arbor with a concentration in global health. Most recently, Josh traveled to Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, where he joined other nurse practitioner students to gain experience in community health promotion, clinical practice improvement, and home visits and deepened his understanding of health and illness in Thai society.
Josh is particularly interested in learning how other cultures understand the meaning of health and illness, and how those values can shape local health care systems and their delivery of care. As an undergraduate studying sociology and philosophy as well as nursing, Josh participated in an exchange with a nursing school in Taiwan and conducted observations in a Chinese medicine clinic. This opened up his interest in pursuing international studies alongside building his nursing and medical experience, and he is currently pursuing both a certificate in Chinese studies and certification in occupational health nursing.
Josh’s professors remark that he is a “dedicated student” with “great promise as a future nurse practitioner” and emphasize his consistent teamwork, empathy, and strong interpersonal communication. As a future adult gerontological primary care nurse practitioner, Josh is driven to improve patient health in any setting.
CEW+ is inspired by Josh’s commitment and names him a Menakka and Essel Bailey Graduate Fellow.
