Medha Kapoor

CEW+ commends Medha’s determination to improve healthcare access and names her an Irma M. Wyman Scholar.

Medha Kapoor is pursuing a dual master’s degree in health informatics and business administration at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She is passionate about improving healthcare access for underserved and immigrant populations.

Growing up in a country with limited resources and a traditional in-person healthcare system, Medha faced numerous challenges that influenced her educational and career paths. Initially starting her career as a dentist, she gained firsthand experience working in community clinics and private practices. Through these experiences, she recognized a critical gap in the healthcare system, where healthcare services were primarily accessible to privileged populations. This realization sparked Medha’s deep-rooted desire to enhance accessibility and inclusivity by addressing barriers to healthcare. With this motivation, Medha began her studies at U-M and remains focused on bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility and improving healthcare delivery and management by leveraging digital technology and information systems.

At U-M, Medha serves as president of the Interprofessional Healthcare Student Organization, fostering discussion and collaboration among people of diverse backgrounds to promote inclusive healthcare practices, and as treasurer of the Health Informatics Student Organization, where she supports women in STEM and mentors young girls pursuing opportunities in science and technology. Medha additionally serves as Chief Healthcare Consultant at ImmiHealth, a startup dedicated to helping uninsured immigrants and low-income individuals find and access healthcare resources.

Medha’s future plans include collaborating with healthcare professionals and technology experts to create digital tools that address the needs of both patients and healthcare providers, as well as advocating for healthcare policy reforms that support the use of technology in healthcare. With her multifaceted experiences and unwavering commitment, Medha is already making an impact in the healthcare sector. Her innovative thinking, leadership skills, and dedication to improving healthcare access position her as a promising force for positive change.
