GETTING STARTED

Saba Elmaweri

“I firmly believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves a quality education. Through my teaching, I hope to foster an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and encourages students to think globally.”

Saba Elmaweri is a dedicated parent and determined future educator pursuing her bachelor’s in elementary education at UM-Dearborn. After graduating from high school, Saba started a family and focused on providing a nurturing environment for her expanding family; however, she also remained determined to pursue her ambitions. Now, as a mother of three, Saba is returning to school to work toward her goal of becoming a teacher.

Saba’s educational endeavors have not come without challenges, as she has had to balance life as a Yemeni American and the pressures of modern life in America and returning to school as a nontraditional student while caring for her family. However, Saba adds, “This dance is a continuous learning opportunity and growth mindset that impacts not only myself and my family, but my community as well.” She is grateful for the journey she has experienced, which has built resilience and a love of learning.

Now at U-M, she is recognized by her professors for her “outstanding dedication and work ethic,” her remarkable ability “to accomplish challenging tasks/assignments with hard work and persistence,” and her dedication to growing as an educator and applying everything she learns to her work with children. Saba believes firmly in the transformative power of education and, with her degree, aims to advocate for fair access to education and culturally-sensitive teaching methods. She reflects, “I firmly believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves a quality education. Through my teaching, I hope to foster an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and encourages students to think globally.”

CEW+ admires Saba’s commitment to her own education and that of others and proudly names her a Molly Hunter Dobson Scholar.
