GETTING STARTED

Sadiya Ghadai

Sadiya hopes that as she proves herself, her children will see that, “we can achieve with hard work, just don’t give up on your dream.”

Sadiya Ghadai is a dedicated student whose educational career has been defined by balancing raising her three children and navigating university life. Far from her family in Pakistan, Sadiya devoted her time to her family as a full-time mother and homemaker. Motivated to emphasize the importance of education for women, Sadiya enrolled and completed two associate degrees from Washtenaw Community College. Now, following unexpected challenges that interrupted her studies, Sadiya is continuing her investment in her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of Michigan.

A committed first-generation student, Sadiya has been recognized by her instructors as, “an exceptional student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance, dedication, and leadership qualities.” Sadiya is recognized for her “creative yet logical programming” and ability to apply new ideas. Her academic promise is demonstrated through a diverse portfolio of projects, which span from data-driven analyses to improve business practices, to website and mobile application construction using a variety of programming languages. Sadiya is working relentlessly to complete her education and pursue her vision of becoming a software developer. Bolstered by her genuine passion for learning, Sadiya is also an active collaborator in the classroom. She is recognized for her willingness to assist classmates, offer encouragement, and engage in a “thoughtful and insightful manner.”

Sadiya seeks to set an example for her children and other women raised in a culture where they are expected to be completely dependent on their husbands. She is motivated to demonstrate that educated women can share in providing financial support to better their families, navigate obstacles independently, and achieve their dreams with hard work. Sadiya hopes that as she proves herself, her children will see that, “we can achieve with hard work, just don’t give up on your dream.”

CEW+ celebrates Sadiya’s unwavering commitment to achieving her academic goals and names her an Irma M. Wyman Scholar.
