“Every person deserves to live in a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment, and I want to use my skills to make this a reality.”
Tanvir Hasan is an architect currently pursuing his master’s in architecture from Taubman College at the University of Michigan. Raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tanvir was a naturally curious child but struggled in school due to dyslexia. He loved learning about history and science, but his health challenges prevented him from achieving his dream of studying physics at university. However, he persisted in earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the American International University in Bangladesh. While an undergraduate, Tanvir won an honorable mention award in a design competition and received the Dr. Anwarul Adedin Leadership Award. His undergraduate thesis focused on the urban landscape of Dhaka, and he used computational design and crowd simulation to solve the problem of circulation patterns in urban markets. He presented his research at the 2021 Design Communications Conference, and the paper has been selected for publication. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 2016, Tanvir worked for renowned architectural firms in Dhaka as an architect.
In 2022, Tanvir enrolled in his master’s program in Ann Arbor. He intends to use his degree to improve his computational design and crowd simulation skills to become a better architect. With these skills, his goal is to improve people’s lives on a personal, community, and global level by creating beautiful, safe, and sustainable buildings. Tanvir also envisions improving disadvantaged communities by creating affordable and functional housing solutions, as he states, “Every person deserves to live in a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment, and I want to use my skills to make this a reality.”
While Tanvir is a student, he left his family in Dhaka. Tanvir remains committed to supporting them to ensure that his family enjoys a safe and caring environment.
CEW+ celebrates Tanvir’s vision and names him a Grace A. and James D. Bruce Community Engagement Scholar.
