GETTING STARTED

Tuesday Dixon

[Tuesday's] vision is to leverage research and data-driven approaches to transform women’s health, ensuring that marginalized voices are no longer overlooked in clinical care or in research.

Tuesday Dixon is pursuing her bachelor of science in nursing and a certificate in nursing leadership and management at UM-Flint, where her academic and professional journey reflects both resilience and purpose. Tuesday’s dedication to healthcare stems from more than fifteen years as a home help provider and certified nursing assistant, where she cared for clients with complex needs, including those with traumatic brain injuries. For Tuesday, caregiving is deeply personal. She supported her mother through multiple illnesses while also navigating her oldest child’s mental health challenges. These experiences sharpened both her clinical skills and her advocacy, particularly in seeking equitable access to care for families of color in Detroit.

Her own journey with endometriosis has further fueled Tuesday’s determination to improve women’s health. Too often dismissed by providers, she understands firsthand the need for patient-centered research and advocacy that ensures women are heard, respected, and supported. She became interested in conducting research of her own after participating in summer water research at Wayne County Community College District a semester before starting at UM-Flint. This opportunity sparked her passion for inquiry and evidence-based practice.

Although Tuesday has faced personal and professional challenges, she excels both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to being named to the Dean’s List for Fall 2024 and Winter 2025, Tuesday was also published in QUA Literary Magazine, and she was named a finalist for International Officer of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She is currently petitioning for a seat in the UM-Flint Student Government Senate with plans to develop initiatives that empower neurodivergent students.

Looking ahead, Tuesday plans to pursue a PhD in nursing. Her vision is to leverage research and data-driven approaches to transform women’s health, ensuring that marginalized voices are no longer overlooked in clinical care or in research.

CEW+ commends Tuesday’s resilience and commitment to equitable access to health and names her a Deodge Hill Scholar.
