Her ultimate goal is to specialize in pediatric neurology, addressing the critical need for neurological specialists in underserved communities.

Whittney Logan is pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Michigan to become a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner. Whittney previously earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors from Davenport University. After a seven-year hiatus from formal education to care for her children — three of whom have complex medical needs — Whittney’s return to graduate education marks a personal triumph and professional milestone.

As a registered nurse, Whittney has worked in both clinical and community health settings. Most recently, she has served as a school nurse. Whittney leads the medical emergency response team in her school district and was recently appointed the leader of her region by the Michigan Association of School Nurses. Her colleagues praise Whittney as “an exceptionally organized and proactive nurse.”

Whittney’s professional experience also extends to multiple healthcare settings, from the intensive care unit to community health centers, where she has provided triage services, care coordination, and patient education. In each setting, she combines deep medical knowledge with advocacy, leadership, and a fierce commitment to children’s well-being. She belongs to several professional associations, including the National Association of School Nurses and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society of Nursing.

Her ultimate goal is to specialize in pediatric neurology, addressing the critical need for neurological specialists in underserved communities. One colleague observes that Whittney has “the compassion and perseverance to impact countless children’s lives” through her future practice. Whittney’s motivation to specialize in pediatric neurology is personal, too: her oldest daughter lives with focal epilepsy and cognitive challenges, and her youngest children manage an array of complex conditions, including severe allergies, asthma, and suspected genetic disorders. Coordinating their care across specialties ignited Whittney’s drive to deepen her expertise and expand access to quality pediatric neurological care, particularly in underserved communities like her own in Saginaw.
