Zayna Suleiman
Zayna’s vision for the future involves developing innovative healthcare systems that reduce technical barriers, improve patient outcomes, and foster greater health equity.
Zayna Suleiman is a driven scholar currently pursuing a master of science in health informatics at the University of Michigan. With a deep-seated passion for using data analytics to transform healthcare, Zayna is focused on improving health outcomes, particularly for childhood cancer patients — a cause close to her heart because Zayna herself had acute lymphoblastic leukemia during her teenage years. Her journey through cancer treatment exposed her to the challenges of navigating inefficient healthcare systems, inspiring her to work towards enhancing the accuracy, accessibility, and reliability of healthcare data.
At Michigan State University, Zayna earned a bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences with a focus on public health. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in a Global Nutrition and Health study abroad program in Italy and France, and she also interned with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program in Michigan. At WIC, Zayna conducted critical research on food insecurity and worked on initiatives to expand access to nutritious food for underserved communities.
In addition to her academic achievements, Zayna has gained substantial professional experience. As a strategic support associate at Jackson National Life, she played a key role in data management projects, where she collaborated with internal audit and financial departments to enhance data reliability and control effectiveness. This role not only sharpened her analytical skills but also reinforced her commitment to using data as a tool for positive change in the healthcare industry.
Zayna’s vision for the future involves developing innovative healthcare systems that reduce technical barriers, improve patient outcomes, and foster greater health equity. Through her graduate studies and beyond, Zayna is determined to make a lasting impact on global healthcare, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for childhood cancer survivors.
CEW+ recognizes Zanya’s important vision for the future of healthcare and names her an Irma M. Wyman Scholar.
